About North Coast Baseball

North Coast Baseball was founded with the purpose of providing a higher level of youth baseball in a challenging sportsman-like setting. The need to provide additional quality baseball opportunities for interested players became the foundation for North Coast Baseball.   The 12u, 13-14, and 15-16 divisions utilize rules and base distances that  proportionately reflect major league baseball. This differs from traditional community leagues rules for 12u baseball and provides players an opportunity to experience "real baseball" rules and game conditions.

The 12u division of North Coast Baseball started in 1999 as the Rochester Cooperstown Baseball League (RCBL).   RCBL was born out of a desire to provide younger players an opportunity to experience an advanced level of play using real baseball rules.  This league exposes players to things like "Leading off base" "Stealing bases without waiting for the ball to cross the plate"   "Running on a dropped third strike"  "Pick off plays" and "Pitching from the stretch".  The traditional 60' bases with 46' pitching distances are modified slightly to 70' bases and 50' pitching.

Experience has taught us that once a player at the 10u and 12u age level gets the opportunity to participate in games with rules like "leading off", "pitching from the stretch", "holding runners", "running on a dropped third strike" two things happen:

1. Their enjoyment level of the game increases tremendously.

2. They are significantly better prepared to make the transition to a full sized field and don't experience the frustrations of such a large distance change normally associated at the age of 13 when they begin their scholastic baseball career.

Ages 13 and above utilize full size fields.

Rules for all divisions are provided to coaches prior to the start of the season.  See the home page of this web site for the corresponding links.

SEASON DATES

The "Regular Season" will run from approximately from the beginning of June  through the end of July. There will be a 16 game schedule created in advance of the beginning of the season. Standings will be kept and updated on a daily basis. Teams will have access to current standings and schedules via this web site. The number of participating teams will determine the number of divisions and final schedule.

There will be a single-elimination "Play-Off" format following the Regular Season. All teams will have the opportunity to participate in the play-off with seeding taking place based upon the final results of the regular season game schedule.  Where the number of teams in each city per division permits, the  #1 seed will play last seed, #2 seed will play second to last seed, etc.  A championship bracket will be established to eventually crown a true champion of North Coast Baseball for each age bracket.   In the event of the league having an odd number of teams, the #1 seed will receive a bye in the first round of the play-offs.  Trophies will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams during the Regular Season and the top 2  teams in the play-offs.

High quality baseballs are provided to each team prior to the start of the season to help ensure consistent fair play.

North Coast Baseball does everything possible to accommodate as many teams' individual schedules as possible with the intention of permitting players to participate in as much baseball as their individual or team schedule allows.

NORTH COAST BASEBALL

North Coast Baseball welcomes both male and female players and does not impose traditional geographic restrictions.  Teams may choose their players based upon any criteria they wish.  Some teams are chosen as a part of their community baseball organization while others ("club teams") are assembled as independent teams.

North Coast Baseball has adopted a "Code of Conduct" that is strictly enforced to ensure fair play.  Every coach is required to acknowledge receipt of the code of conduct prior to the start of the season.  Violations of the Code of Conduct are dealt with accordingly in order to maintain a high quality environment.  The Code of Conduct also extends to players as well as spectators.

Questions and comments are always welcome.  Please submit any requests via this website or call the numbers listed for the league commissioner.
