North Coast Baseball was founded with the purpose of providing a higher level of youth baseball in a challenging sportsman-like setting. The need to provide additional quality baseball opportunities for interested players became the foundation for North Coast Baseball. The 12u, 13-14, and 15-16 divisions utilize rules and base distances that proportionately reflect major league baseball. This differs from traditional community leagues rules for 12u baseball and provides players an opportunity to experience "real baseball" rules and game conditions. The 12u division of North Coast Baseball started in 1999 as the Rochester Cooperstown Baseball League (RCBL). RCBL was born out of a desire to provide younger players an opportunity to experience an advanced level of play using real baseball rules. This league exposes players to things like "Leading off base" "Stealing bases without waiting for the ball to cross the plate" "Running on a dropped third strike" "Pick off plays" and "Pitching from the stretch". The traditional 60' bases with 46' pitching distances are modified slightly to 70' bases and 50' pitching. Experience has taught us that once a player at the 10u and 12u age level gets the opportunity to participate in games with rules like "leading off", "pitching from the stretch", "holding runners", "running on a dropped third strike" two things happen: 1. Their enjoyment level of the game increases tremendously. 2. They are significantly better prepared to make the transition to a full sized field and don't experience the frustrations of such a large distance change normally associated at the age of 13 when they begin their scholastic baseball career. Ages 13 and above utilize full size fields. Rules for all divisions are provided to coaches prior to the start of the season. See the home page of this web site for the corresponding links.
